While news about the United Methodist Church’s decision on matters of sexuality and gender has fallen out of the “next big news” cycle, our commitment to loving all and serving all remains a priority of our church. We have, for the past 18+ years, been unwavering in our commitment to invite and embrace all to experience life in the family of God. We will continue to empower God’s People here at West Lawn to love God completely, love one another unconditionally, and to serve all, as Jesus would, and did.
We hope the decisions made at the special General Conference in St. Louis last month will not deter us, or change the way we do ministry here at West Lawn. Our heart breaks for those who may feel devalued, disenfranchised, or excluded from God’s Church. To those and to all, We remain committed to call us, God’s Beloved Community, to:
1. Love God with all our heart and soul and mind and strength (see Mark 12:30);
2. Love one another (see John 13:34-35), even when we may disagree; and
3. Love our neighbors (see Mark 12:31) wholeheartedly, and in tangible ways.
As we labor on in the name of Jesus, please remember that in just a few weeks we will be celebrating Easter. Easter reminds us that nothing can limit the unconditional love of God. Thank you for being a part of the People of God here at West Lawn! Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus together! And thank you for your commitment to being world-changing disciples in Jesus’ name.
